If I connect my video card DVI cable to one monitor and the VGA cable to another monitor, can both work?
Will they show the exact same thing, or can they be used as separate screens like some people might have and do different things on each?
My video card has a DVI outlet and also a VGA outlet.
Also, if I connect both DVI and VGA to the same monitor, is that being redundant but with no harm caused?
Yes, you can use two different monitors, and you can choose in Windows what is displayed: same image on two screens, two different screens, or what is called "extended desktop" where the computer acts like the two screens are part of one big picture.
Right-click on the desktop, then choose "Properties" then "Settings" to see how to change the display modes.
You can hook both cables to the same monitor, assuming the monitor has multiple inputs. It doesn't buy you anything. You still have to select which input port is "active" on the monitor, then you have to make sure the computer is configured to use the right output port. It can be confusing and a big pain to keep track of. Don't bother.
