Will this graphics card work?
Hello all,
I have a dell dimension 2350 and I would like to use up to 3 monitors... I have the monitors and they are all vga. So will this graphics card work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-Radeon-7500-128-MB-DDR-PCI-Video-Card-Dual-VGA-Head_W0QQitemZ290349565651QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Video_TV_Cards?hash=item439a2ec6d3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
I do know that my computer is PCI and that the processor is pentium 4. Can I use a splitter like: http://cgi.ebay.com/DMS-59-to-Dual-VGA-Cable-Molex-Y-Splitter-Video-NEW_W0QQitemZ290350129891QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Cables_Adapters?hash=item439a3762e3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
that for the third monitor. Will my idea work?
Thanks,
Aaron
Nope.
First of all, that splitter is for a video card with a DMS59 port. The video card you linked to does not have DMS59.
Secondly, PCI graphics cards are extremely slow. (Don't confuse them with PCIExpress 16x, with is 30 times faster, which unfortunately your system does not have).
Third, when you plug in a video card, it will most likely disable your onboard, which leaves you with just the two VGA ports on that molasses-slow PCI card.
Fourth, using a VGA-to-two-VGA splitter will only allow you to clone an image-- The splitter merely takes the signal for one monitor and duplicates it into two identical signals, so you will not be able to display different things on the two monitors connected to the splitter.
Your situation is pretty poor all around. I say save your money and buy a better computer (one with PCIExpress 16x) so you can use a 4-port graphics card, like an ATI Radeon HD4850X2, which can drive up to 4 monitors independently.
